About
Sea Beyond’s coaching paths are inspired by my own learning.
In challenging times learning has been a lifeline. I’ve ran, sauntered and rambled along my own personal development path. I’ve found wise guides along the way; and I’m indebted to the many people in my life who have taught me so much, and those who continue to teach me every day.
The Myers-Briggs personality tool provided me with a depth of knowledge and understanding that changed my life. It gave me a structure to understand myself better and insight to see the dynamics that play out in my personality type. It taught me about my energy, its source, what charges it and what depletes it. I learnt about being in flow, when I’m loving what I’m doing; and equally sensing what stresses me, when I’m out of flow and how to move back into balance.
If Myers-Briggs represents the doorway into personality, IFS (Internal Family Systems) represents the interconnected rooms of personality. When I began working with IFS it had a transformative effect in my life. It felt like a homecoming. I learnt that I have many parts to my personality and as I began to understand these different parts better; I slowed down and showed up more in all of my relationships and I became a better person.
IFS is holistic, it will help you to notice and work with parts of your personality and learn how they relate to each other. It brings a deep sense of grounding and calm. It has the potential to bring about lasting and meaningful change in your life – becoming better at home, better at work and better at life.
Sea Beyond is about all of our heroic journeys. It’s about rising to the challenges, feeling better and thinking clearer. It’s about connection within ourselves and with others. It’s about knowing what serves you best, when to let it in and when to let it go. It’s about knowing when to be strong and when to be gentle. It’s about believing the best in ourselves and the best in others because you become what you believe.
Sea Beyond is about clarity of purpose, sharpening your vision and your focus to see beyond now.
It’s an invitation to learn.

About Carol McCarthy
& Sea Beyond Executive Coaching

I genuinely enjoy people and I love working with them.

I’m interested in what makes us who we are, what we bring to our work and relationships, and what can happen when we understand ourselves and each other a little better.

People have been at the heart of my work throughout my career. I’ve worked with people at different stages of their lives and careers, individually, in teams and across organisations. I still find people endlessly interesting. No two people are the same, and no two conversations are either.

My own learning has been an important part of that. I’ve had wise guides along the way and plenty of opportunities to learn more about myself. That curiosity has never really left me.

I like to look at things differently. To turn something around, see it from another angle and make connections that might not be obvious at first. I’m fascinated by how differently we can see and experience the same thing. I also like finding language for something a person already senses but hasn’t quite been able to name.

Self-awareness is at the heart of my work. It helps us notice more of what is going on: the patterns we repeat, the impact we have, what gives us energy, what gets in our way and what we may not yet see.

That awareness opens the door to self-leadership. Understanding ourselves matters, but so does trusting what we know, taking responsibility for our choices and having the courage to act on what matters. We won’t always get it right. We can become more conscious of how we are showing up, the impact we are having and the choices available to us.

I bring all of this into my work at Sea Beyond, from one-to-one coaching to working with groups.

At the heart of Sea Beyond is connection within ourselves and with others. Knowing what serves us and what we need to let go of. Knowing when to be strong and when to be gentle.

It’s about clarity of purpose, sharpening your vision and your focus to see beyond now.

It’s an invitation to learn.
